The Social Committee

Hopewell Investors is committed to “giving back” to our community. As a group, we want to use the knowledge and resources we have accumulated to help others.

As part of this mandate, a committee was formed to seek out appropriate opportunities. The consensus among our group was to focus on two areas: a short-term goal of participating in local fund-raising events and a long-term goal aimed at the creation of a scholarship or prize that would enable local students to better appreciate and advance their understanding of investments and the practice of investing.

Hopewell Investors and kids ride for Habitat for Humanity.

We began our activities in the Winter of 1999 with a “Bowl-a-thon” event to help Junior Achievement finance it’s programs helping students to develop their “entrepreneurship”. With over 20 club and familiy participants, we all had a great time while raising over $500. For a first time event, we all felt this was quite successful - a good starting point to learn what activities would benefit the community while allowing for the fullest participation of our members.

Our second event of 1999 was the “Ride for Humanity”, a 5 mile bike ride benefitting Habitat For Humanity, which has ambitious goals in the Trenton area with a full agenda for providing homes and housing to needy families. The bike ride was a great way to enjoy the day and an ideal event to let us contribute over $600 as a charitable donation.

The committee is currently reviewing events for the Fall of 1999 and would appreciate any ideas from its members or the public.

Our long-term goal of providing knowledge and resources to local students is taking shape and we hope to implement them in 2000. Please contact Tom Cooper with your ideas or suggestions.
